President Rajapaksa has declared open Abimansala the mega Resort built for the benefit of the totally dependent disabled war heroes. Abimansala has all the required facilities to look after and care for 50 soldiers who had been totally rendered disabled in operations launched to free the motherland from the terrorists. Two doctors, nurses and 40 helpers will be serving. Abhimansala would be of much relief for soldiers who were totally disabled in terrorist attacks while they were engaged in humanitarian operations in the battlefront risking their lives on behalf of the motherland. It will give an opportunity for these soldiers to lead their lives in a couducive atmosphere.
The first disabled soldier of this Resort built in adjacent to Nuwara Wewa in Anuradhapura was registered by President Rajapaksa. Pradeep Kumar was the first soldier to be registered. He was totally disabled after he came under a terrorist attack at Puthumathalan. The President also did not forget to make inquiries about other soldiers who were totally disabled.
The President also took time to monitor the houses built within the Abhimansala precincts. There are five houses within the premises and facilities are available to accommodate four soldiers within a Unit. Five houses have also been built for the occupation of their family members. One of the houses had been built from the proceeds of the song “Maha Rajanani” vocalized by Visharada Saheli Lochana Gamage and contributions made by Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel. The rest of the houses have been built by the Army Seva Vanitha Unit with the support of the Private Sector.
The Housing Complex is equipped with a physical training centre, a library, a restaurant and kitchen. Soldiers of the Army Engineering Unit made a significant contribution by handling the construction. The architectural contribution has been made by Vinodh Jayasinghe. A group of students of the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya presented a pageant opening the swimming pool of the Complex. The presentation of gifts to these children took place under the patronage of President of the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Defence Ministry Ayoma Rajapaksa and President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit Manjulika Wijesuriya. The Army Band was also in attendance. Minister Tissa Karaliyedda, North Central Governor Karunaratne Divulgane, Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake, Deputy Minister Duminda Dissanayake, President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunge, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, the Joint Chief of Staff and Chiefs of the Armed Forces were present on the occasion.
