The time has come for the Tamil Diaspora to change their attitude. This has been emphasised by Tamil National Alliance Parliamentarian M.A. Sumandiran.
Mr. Sumandiran laid this emphasis in response to a query made by LTTE loyalist Tamil community while participating in a special meeting of the London Branch of the TNA. Sources emanating from London said that the meeting was attended by LTTE loyalists as well as moderates. Continuing his speech despite constants obstructions by LTTE loyalists, Mr. Sumandiran emphatically mentioned that his stand was that it was opportune for the Tamil community to change their stand on Sri Lanka and her citizens.
Already, the Tamil National Alliance is in the process of negotiating with the Government on the problems of the Tamil community. The talks have taken a positive direction and confidence was building in this respect. Also foreign statesmen are not satisfied with the current activities of the Tamil Diaspora. Mr. Sumandiran revealed at this meeting that these statesmen had told him that they were not prepared to work to achieve the end of the Tamil Diaspora.
The majority in Sri Lanka are Sinhalese. As such the TNA MP said that the Tamil community should agree to a solution acceptable to the Sinhalese. However, London sources said that Mr. Sumandiran’s opinion overtook the view of the others at this meeting.
