The government has resettled over 11,000 families in Thelippalai just outside the Palaly high security zone (HSZ) in the North, the Attorney General’s Department has said.
The Attorney General’s Department has informed the Supreme Court that 11,879 families consisting of 38,637 members have been re-settled in Valigamam North, when only 6,928 families consisting of 25,114 members were to be re-settled there.
This information was placed before court when a fundamental rights petition filed by TNA MP Mavai Senathiraja and two others on the HSZs in the North and the inability for people to resettle in the area was taken up for hearing.
Deputy Solicitor General Shavindra Fernando had submitted a letter from the Jaffna Government Agent with the number of families and family members settled in respective areas in theJaffnapeninsula as evidence.
