Channel 4 had said that their programmes were based on sources from Sarath Fonseka. Channel 4 in its news had telecast a statement obtained from Shavendra Silva opposite the UN Headquarters. However Channel 4 had been biased in not including the interview held with Shavendra Silva after going to his office. We have received the video footage of this discussion. In the interview, Shavendra Silva had said that journalists enjoyed the right of expressing their views. However they had a code of ethics which had to be respected. When Shavendra Silva pointed out that he was unaware of the source from which such baseless information had been secured, the Channel 4 journalists said their information was based on Sarath Fonseka’s sources.
This video footage was not incorporated in the news telecast yesterday by Channel 4. The programme was mainly targeted at Shavendra Silva and Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. A notable feature is that Channel 4 had telecast yesterday’s programme after Shavendra Silva divulged to the world the vicious fabrication of their previous programme.
