The stage is set for 2011 National Farmers Week. It will be held at the Agricultural College at Thandikulam in Vavuniya from the 1st to the 5th of next month.
The National Farmers Week is being launched with the aim of imparting agricultural knowledge to the farmers. These include seed production, fruit production, modern nursery methods, technical knowledge, utilizing communication for the agri industry and new grafting methods. Deputy Director of Communications of the Department of Agriculture Dr. Rohan Wijekoon said that during the National Farmers Week a National Agriculture exhibition is also to be organised depicting the advancements made in domestic agriculture, thereby creating an environment to take the country forward. The exhibition will show how the agricultural achievements of Sri Lanka will make reality the President’s plan of making Sri Lanka a ‘Miracle of Asia.” He said a series of events and several discussions are being planned by the Ministry of Agriculture to boost the enthusiasm of farmers taking part in this event.
Work related to the exhibition premises is being carried out under the supervision of Vavuniya District Secretary P.S.M. Charles.
