There is an international conspiracy to oust Major General Shavendra Silva as Sri Lanka’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations. He has emphasized that Channel 4 will have to assume the responsibility if there was any danger to his life.

The latest Channel 4 video released on Wednesday was mainly targeted at Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Major General Shavendra Silva. By proving in public that the video footage released by this Channel earlier was a fake, he had become one of their main targets. Major General Silva continuously challenged Channel 4 publicly for a debate with him. However, instead of accepting this challenge, it had released another fake video.
Shavendra Silva strongly rejects the two images which are claimed to be that of military officers. He emphasized that there were no officers of the names given in the video serving under the 58th Division which he headed. Also if any orders were given to him by the Defence Secretary, it is the Divisional Commanders and the Commanding Officers who should have an awareness of it. But Shavendra Silva stressed that no officer showed in the Channel 4 video footage had served in his Division. At the same time a Brigade Commander or a Commanding Officer of the Sri Lanka Army does have knowledge in English. But the voices of actors had been used for the images used by this Channel.
Shavendra Silva also stressed that neither a Brigade Commander nor a Commander had deserted his Division. Also the presenter of this programme had said that one of the military officers of the related images had given 46 photographs of the final battle to him. Giving his views in this respect Shavendra Silva said that not a single military officer had the opportunity of taking photographs at that moment.
If the officer concerned had been engaged in taking photographs, Major General Shavendra Silva noted that he was not suitable to be such an officer. They had also mentioned as vampires of the Sri Lanka Army. The actualities could be verified from the journalists who were in the battlefront. These journalists are witnesses as to whether there were any bodies sans the heads. Although Channel 4 had mentioned that he had gone on retirement, Shavendra Silva is still in the Army and was not a pensioner. Shavendra Silva noted that Channel 4 did not have the moral ethics to look into the facts and telecast. The video footage telecast on this channel was frequently aired by state and private television channels during the related period. He said he had evidence to this effect. These are the views of critics as to what media ethics Channel 4 has to telecast for character assassination. However he was a person holding a special position in the United States as a Deputy Permanent Representative of the United Nations.
Emphasizing that it was puzzling to note Channel 4 officers from England making queries from him by obstructing his path, Maj. Gen. Shavendra Silva opined that they were flagrantly violating media ethics. He had a discussion with this presenter of Channel 4 for 45 minutes but this channel had not used any video footage of this discussion. Again, Shavendra Silva queries to the ethical standards of this channel. Shavendra Silva has challenged it to telecast this interview with him.
