The government has appointed a Cabinet Sub-Committee (CSC) on Power and Energy and Supply and Distribution of Petroleum Products.
Cabinet Spokesperson and Media Minister Keheliya Rmbaukwella says that the CSC was appointed with the aim of providing electricity to the entire country by 2012 and to ensure the steady supply of petroleum products.
The Cabinet of Ministers has already approved the appointment and the CSC is to oversee the importation and distribution of petroleum products for all purposes, including power generation.
The CSC comprises Senior Minister A.H.M. Fowzie, Petroleum Industries Minister Susil Premjayantha, Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka, Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne and Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Minister Dilan Perera.
The Power and Energy Ministry Secretary is to function as the Secretary to CSC and the Finance and Planning Ministry Secretary, Chief Executive Officer of the Secretariat for Senior Ministers and the Petroleum Industries Ministry Secretary are to attend the CSC meetings.
