The Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Ministry has launched a programme to provide technical know-how to fishermen.
The aim is to minimize the wastage of fish harvests. It has been discovered that the nutrition level decrease due to improper distribution and storage. A special workshop was held in Trincomalee to provide special training in technical know-how to the fishermen. Deputy Minister Susantha Punchi Nilame said that their aim is to organize workshops throughout the country in the future.
He said that awareness will be created in fishermen on how to save their time and labour while increasing the fish harvests. He said the techniques that can be used in the fishing vessels and how to bring back the harvest in good condition will be taught to the fishermen. Information will also be provided on the loan scheme for fishermen.
