The Kantale Sugar Factory has joined the industries that are awakening after the second Independence.
The Kantale Sugar Factory which was facing the threat of destruction has been reopened after 18 years. Its first phase is now underway. The factory is located in a land of 22 thousand acres. Already seeds of sugar cane have been planted in an acre of land. The seeds suitable for Kantale are also being identified from the seeds received from Udawalawa and Pelwatta Sugar Research Institutes.
The government has called for tenders to continue the production of the sugar factory. Fifteen local and foreign investors have applied. With the initiation of work many employment opportunities have been created.
