Sri Lanka is conferred with the Chairmanship of Diploma Engineers Forum of SAARC countries.
Sri Lanka was made the chair at the 5th Annual Convention held in Colombo. Upali Gunaratne is appointed as the new Chairman. The inaugural session was held under the patronage of Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne. Sri Lanka has received the chairmanship for a period of two years. India held the chairmanship earlier. The Prime Minister presented the Diplomas.
The Prime Minister said that the Annual Convention will develop the knowledge and unity in winning the challenges faced by the region. Sri Lanka has launched massive projects to improve infrastructure after the war victory in which Sri Lankan engineers provide active participation. It should be mentioned that technical skills of the engineers of the region are making a large scale contribution for the development. Ministers Prof. G.L. Peiris, P. Dayaratne and representatives from Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal and Pakistan participated in the occasion.
