A programme has been launched to register traders of food including food packets, in the Colombo city.
The Chief Medical Officer of the Colombo Municipal Council Dr. Pradeep Kariyawasam said that the new programme will be initiated on Monday. He said that the necessary documents have already been distributed among the persons concerned. He said that they need to obtain a certificate from Public Health Inspectors in the relevant areas informing that the food is hygienically prepared in a suitable place. After receiving the certificate the Municipal Council will provide them training and register the location. He said that they will also be issued Identity Cards as handlers of food.
