Dengue on the increase due to sporadic rain

Jul 30, 2011 12:14:03 PM - itnnews.lk

Dengue is reported to be raising its head amidst the rainy weather experienced in the country.

The Health Ministry said that the intermittent rain experienced in the country is contributing towards the spread of Dengue. In the past 28 days of July 3639 patients have been reported. In June 3439 patients and in May 1960 patients were reported. The number in April was 1768. The rain water provides an environment for the Dengue mosquitoes to breed. The Health Ministry has called upon the people to maintain the environment clean to prevent the situation. The Ministry has stressed that the only solution to minimize the number of affected people is to continuously destroy places where rain water is retained.
