Nothing is as interesting and heartening as walking around the Liberty Plaza and the Majestic City. There are many happenings around. Food, clothes and new electronics are but a few of the main attractions.
Hundreds of people walk into these malls both on week days and weekends. It is true that a greater number of them are young people. However, there are several senior citizens and those in their middle ages who like to shop or look around. I therefore think the administrative authorities of these malls ought to be more thoughtful and considerate and introduce some seats inside the malls. Pregnant women, mothers with young children are other visitors who ought to be thought of. I have seen that malls in other parts of the world are fitted with benches for people to rest after carrying their heavy bags or after walking long distances. On the contrary, in our malls, the security officers especially at the entrance drive away those who in a desperate attempt, try to rest on the steps. It is time to act. I know that the administrators may have a point in not introducing seating facilities. There is a possibility of people coming just to sit and not to shop. However, they cannot punish all those who walk into the malls just because a few possibilities exist. Seats are a must at the malls in Sri Lanka. People are harassed no end. It is time to make life easy for the senior citizens and the women of this country. R.S. Fernando. Kalubowila.
