Another project has been launched under the Mahinda Chintana policy to create a trilingual society.
Spoken English will be taught to one million youths to face the future with confidence. The national programme named as ‘English Sri Lanka’ was launched at Ananda College, Colombo under the patronage of Minister S.B. Dissanayake. The course conducted by renowned lecturer on the subject Pujitha Wijesinghe will provide training in spoken English for one million youths free of charge. Children of low income families, university students and Bhikkus who receive Pirivena education will be eligible to follow the course. Presentation of Excursion Awards 2011 was also held simultaneously. Minister Mervyn Silva was amongst those who participated in the occasion.
