A man who police say is responsible for 40 home burglaries is behind bars.
Dantwan Wilson, 20, has been charged with first-degree burglary, second-degree burglary, two counts of larceny and criminal conspiracy, according to records at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. His bond was set at $200,000.
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said Wilson burglarized homes in Columbia, Forest Acres and other parts of Richland County. Neighborhoods where burglaries occurred included Denny Terrace, Woodfield Park, Eau Claire, Bryneswood, Earlwood Park, Heathwood and Forest Acres. Property stolen included televisions, jewelry, electronics and cash, according to a sheriff’s department report. Some of the property has been recovered.
Wilson was identified as a suspect after an April burglary in Columbia. Concerned residents described a Chevrolet pickup truck to investigators and that tip lead police to the suspect, who was arrested July 20, said Richland County Sheriff’s Deputy Curtis Wilson.
The sheriff’s department is looking for additional suspects who may have helped Dantwan Wilson during the burglaries. The burglaries also are under investigation by the Columbia Police Department and Forest Acres Police Department.
