Three Orangeburg County men are accused by the sheriff there of attempting to steal aluminum from the Old Dantzler School in an ambitious operation.
Joe Anthony Golden, 53, Eutawville; James Curtis Baker, 49, also of Eutawville; and Antonio Little, 44, Holly Hill were arrested and charged with trespassing, petit larceny and malicious injury to real property. Golden also is charged with driving under suspension, first offense and was the subject of a warrant for child support obligations.
“With the help of a concerned citizen, deputies were able to catch the thieves while they were using a pickup truck to rip apart a wall of the building.” Sheriff Leroy Ravenell. “These guys came prepared. They had a generator, chains, and they brought their lunch, so they were expecting to be there for a while.”
Investigators are following leads related to recycling center receipts found in the suspects’ truck.
The school, property of Orangeburg School District 3, has been closed for several years. It is locked behind a gate and “No Trespassing” signs are posted.
