Nine sentenced as Greenview gun ring broken

A gun-trafficking ring in the Greenview community of Columbia has been dismantled in a multi-agency operation.
Nine young men ranging in age from 19 to 24 were sentenced to federal prison terms in the operation, which also netted 20 firearms.
Using a confidential informant, investigators with the federal Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Exploses and the Columbia Police Department gathered information from the ring in March and April 2010, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. The informant purcahsed weapons and ammunition from the group, but also was robbed at gunpoint in June by members of the group at an apartment complex.
Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott described the ring as a “persistent illness that the Greenview community has been suffering with for quite some time.”
