NTC Looking At Upgrading Restaurants

Aug 4, 2011 8:35:22 AM - thesundayleader.lk

The National Transport Commission (NTC) is to focus on uplifting the standards of restaurants and canteens along long distance bus routes.

The NTC states that most of the restaurants along the main roads have been graded as “C” level according to the Health Ministry’s H 800 inspection check list for food selling outlets.

These restaurants according to the NTC need to be upgraded to “A” or “B” grades.

NTC Quality Assurance Director Chandrasiri Weerasekara has said that most restaurants were at grade C level or below C level, which was unsatisfactory.

He has said the NTC and the Health Ministry would introduce strict regulations to up lift the standards.

The location of the restaurant, the air, space and necessary facilities of the restaurant, maintenance and cleanliness, price tagging, staff maintenance, the conditions under which the food is prepared, the quality of food, food storage, toilet maintenance, availability of water and other factors are to be examined and graded.
