Deputy Economic Development Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena says that Cabinet approval has been received to develop the country’s tourism sector under eight categorized themes.
Abeywardena said that the tourism development would now take place under that strategy and the promotion would take place under theSri Lanka“Wonder of Asia” logo.
Some of the themes include beach, park, adventure, etc.
The Minister also observed that the number of hotel rooms in the country is to increase by 45,000 by 2016.
He said that the total employment rate in the tourism sector would also increase to 500,000.
According to Abeywardena, Sri Lanka had managed to maintain a high level of tourist arrivals at a time when tourist arrivals have declined in the Asian region by 10-15 per cent due to favorable climatic conditions inEurope.
