Hilton Head Christmas lights going dark

A popular Christmas display that featured 80,000 lights on Hilton Head Island will be dark this holiday season.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reported http://bit.ly/pqNZJX that the Dove Street Festival of Lights has become too expensive for residents who stage it.
They've been displaying lights in their neighborhood for two decades in an event that raises money for charity and that thousands visit each season.
Residents couldn't find the corporate sponsors needed to move the display to town land. There is not enough power to put up the lights in Crossings Park as they hoped.
Festival co-founder Paul Beckler says it would cost $35,000 for the power and other upgrades for the lights. He says neighbors can't afford that and it's not fair to ask the town to pay the cost.
