Minister Johnston Fernando said that the first stock of the consignment imported from Pakistan will arrive on Monday. The stock includes 100 thousand 50 kilogram bags. The Trade Ministry said this decision had been taken with the purpose of safeguarding the consumer. Plans are underway to import more stocks through the Cooperatives and the Building Materials Corporation. As such the Minister has called upon cement hoarders to immediately release their stocks to the market. Meanwhile, a trader who had hoarded cement stocks was produced in Courts and fined 10 thousand rupees. His stocks were confiscated. He was nabbed by officials of the Consumers Affairs Authority and produced in Courts for refusing to sell cement to a consumer, despite having stocks.
