The 500KW solar-power at Baruthankanda in the Hambanthota District will be connected to the national grid on Monday. It had been put up at a cost of 412 million rupees with the financial assistance of South Korea
Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said that solar-power is a freely available source of energy. Measures should be taken to utilize solar energy in a more effective manner to get optimum output when it is utilized as a power generating source.
The project launched with the technological assistance of Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority will provide solar power to around 3,000 families in the Hambanthota District.
The Minister said his Ministry has earmarked several large scale solar-power projects in the North and East as well as in the North Central Provinces.
