Minister Maithripala Sirisena has said that a streamlined programme has been crafted to avert any issues that would surface in the future on the supply and purchase of drugs.
The Health Minister said that a Cabinet Sub Committee comprising five Minister was appointed two weeks ago based on his proposal to introduce a new programme for the purchase and supply of drugs. He revealed of plans to go for a news drugs supply scheme overcoming shortcomings and certain irregularities in the Technical Evaluation Committees.
The Minister was speaking at a ceremony held at the Medical Research Institute in Colombo. It was organized to mark the 111th Anniversary of the Institute. The Medical Research Institute was launched in the year 1899. It has done a great service to the country by making many discoveries through various research activities. “Thriposha” introduced to upgrade the nutritional standards of women and children was one such example. The Minister revealed of plans to make a large allocation for medical research from next year’s budget. Director of the Medical Research Institute Specialist Dr. Anil Samaranayake was among those present.
