Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris has briefed the diplomatic community on the present situation in Sri Lanka.
The meeting to appraise Ambassadors, High Commissioners and Consuls on the present situation in Sri Lanka and matters significant to the External Affairs Ministry took place at the Ministry. The Minister briefed them on the Darusman Report and matters relating to it. Clarification was made at this meeting on matters related to the Channel 4 video footage, problems of illegal migrants and the political and economic situation. The External Minister seized the opportunity to explain in detail on the peace enthroned in the country and the appropriate initiatives taken to capitalize on political stability. Present on the occasion were Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Foreign Secretary Karunatilake Amunugama, Secretary to the Ministry of Justice and Legal Reforms Suhada Gamlath, Attorney General Mohan Peiris and Secretary of the Presidential Task Force on Northern Resettlement, Development and Security.
