W. Columbia woman wanted in thefts from disabled woman

West Columbia police are looking for a woman accused of stealing money from a disabled woman in her care.

Lydia Nichole Smith, 22, Aiken Street, Gaston, is described by the department as a caretaker of a 63-year-old wheelchair-bound West Columbia woman for the last year. Smith is suspected of stealing the victim’s credit card and making $1,200 in unauthorized purchases. She also is accused of cashing the victim’s stolen checks for more than $2,200.

Warrants issued for Smith charge her with forgery, financial transaction card theft and violation of the adult protection act.
