The Cement Corporation has come forward to distribute cement throughout the island without permitting a shortage.
The demand for cement has steadily increased following the launch of the development battle. A shortage of cement was reported in many areas of the country during the past few days due to unscrupulous traders attempting to conceal stocks. The Sri Lanka Cement Corporation and Lanka Cement Ltd. have launched a programme to distribute cement throughout the country. Minister Dayasritha Tissera inspected the programme.
The Minister said that the programme will be carried out in a manner that would strengthen the country and provide revenue as well. He said that the government is also expecting to open the Kankesanthurai Cement factory which has been closed.
Chairman of the Sri Lanka Cement Corporation Sisira Paranagama said that the corporation is providing cement not only for individual consumers but for contracts in the North and East as well. He requested the traders not to hoard and provide cement at a reasonable price without causing harassment to the consumers.
The required stocks are being transported to all regions of the country including the north and the east.
