The initial work on oil excavation in Mannar Seas has got underway. Minister Basil Rajapaksa revealed this at a function held in Puttalam.
The Minister said that the first oil well is being dug 25 kilo metres off that location. It is a historic occasion as oil has not been excavated before. He said that foreign threats increase when the country is developing economically and people are working in unity. He stressed that if there are so many threats against the country when the situation was such, those can increase many fold if oil will be found.
Minister Basil Rajapaksa inaugurated two roads that were carpeted under the government programme of carpeting and developing rural roads. The roads developed in Thalawila and Dankotuwa areas were vested in the public. The work on carpeting and developing seven new roads in the Mahaweva area also commenced today. Two hundred and nine kilo metres of roads in Puttalam District are being developed under the rural road development programme of the government. It will be carried out at the expenditure of 2.1 billion rupees.
