Measures taken to protect environment during Perahera

The Kandy Esala Perahera will be held for the 4th day today. A large number of people thronged the city to view the Kumbal Perahera on its third day.

Large numbers of local as well as foreign tourists are arriving in Kandyto view the Esala Perahera Festival. All facilities have been made available for them in the city. Tomorrow will be the final day of Kumbal Perahera. Randoli Perahera commences on Tuesday and will be held until 13th of this month. The Environment Ministry has called on the people who arrive inKandy, to refrain from bringing cellophane material and  plastic bottles, that are non biodegradable. They are requested to dispose of them without harming the environment or to take them back. The Central Environment Authority has taken special measures along with a number of organizations to protect the environment during the Perahera season. Awareness is being raised in the people about garbage   management   and environment conservation.
