The government has spent 2.5 billion rupees for the rehabilitation of former LTTE cadres during the past 2 years.
Commissioner General of Rehabilitation Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe said that the funds were used to absorb the youths into society as they attempt to start a new life. He said that the rehabilitation process got underway in May 2009 with 11,664 individuals. The government has spent 1.8 billion rupees for them from 2009 to 2010. The government started to absorb them into society with the beginning of the second year. This has decreased their number. During the second year the government has spent 770 million rupees for their rehabilitation.
