India has assured maximum protection for the Sri Lankan devotees who arrive in India on pilgrimage.
The Indian Government has stressed that violence will not be permitted. The Indian Central Government has said that it has taken measures to create the peaceful atmosphere required for the Sri Lankan pilgrims who arrive in South India including Chennai and other regions of the country. Indian Government expressed concern about the recent incident that took place in Chennai. The Central Government has called on the Tamil Nadu State Government to arrest the suspects and take strict legal measures against them. Meanwhile Deputy Minister Neomal Perera said that the government will continue to send pilgrims to India as usual since the Indian Government has pledged maximum protection for all Sri Lankan pilgrims.
