Harbison and the hospitality tax

Aug 7, 2011 9:05:00 PM - thestate.com
WHERE THE MONEY HAS COME FROM

Harbison-area businesses have generated more of Columbia’s 2 percent “hospitality” tax on food and beverages than any other commercial zone in the city during the past five fiscal years. The numbers show the recession has had little impact on people eating out in the Midlands; collection of the tax — a reflection of sales — dipped slightly between July 2009 and July 2010 but rebounded last year.
