Provincial Councils have recorded close to 30,000 vacancies, according to the 2011 Finance Commission Report.
The report has stated that the vacancies in the Provincial Councils in the country were 29,084. While the approved cadre of the Provincial Councils was 327,248, the existing number in the cadre stood at 298,164.
However, Chief Ministers of several Provincial Councils in the country have told the media that the existing vacancies in the Councils were far greater than the number indicated in the Finance Commission Report.
They have said that vacancies existed in Administration, Educational Administration, Accountants services etc in the Provincial Councils.
According to the report, the maximum number of 5,884 vacancies existed in theNorthWesternProvincewhile the other vacancies were Western Province 4,782, Central Province 655, Southern Province 2,169,Northern Province4,116, North Central 4,120, Uva Province 2,246, Sabaragamuwa 3,411, and the Eastern Province 1,701.
