President Rajapaksa has commissioned a Scheme for the use of water for Poojas conducted at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi. Water from Tisawewa was used for this purpose for more than 2000 years. However the water is polluted due to human activity. Accordingly the need of a scheme to secure water for Poojas conducted at the Sri Maha Bodhi arose. The full sponsorship of the President was received to the creation and installation of a new strategy. The new Scheme was launched to bestow merits on the President’s parents D.A. Rajapaksa and Mrs. Rajapaksa.
The offering of this new Scheme to the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi took place under the patronage of President Rajapaksa today. The blessings of the Maha Sangha including the Chief Incumbent of the Atamasthana, the Ven. Pallegama Sirinivasa Thera were received for this project purely mooted to maintain the cleanliness and safety of the Sri Maha Bodhi. Ministers S.M. Chandrasena and Mervyn Silva, North Central Governor Karunaratne Divulgane, Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake and Deputy Minister W.B. Ekanayake were present on this occasion.
