The JVP is to request parliament to urge the government to appoint an Auditor General.
The JVP has said the matter would be raised in parliament today as a question under Standing Order 23-II.
The post of Auditor General has been vacant for over a year and the government has so far failed to make any appointment.
JVP parliamentarian Vijitha Herath has said that in the absence of an Auditor General, there were concerns over the transparency and accountability of government transactions.
He has added that there were several important issues like the oil hedging deal and the importation of substandard cement that needs to be looked into.
According to Herath, there were many issues that need to be inquired into and therefore the government needed to immediately appoint an Auditor General.
