The five-member state Budget and Control Board today appointed Marcia Adams as the director of that state agency.
Adams, the agency’s No. 2-ranking official, succeeds Eleanor Kitzman, who resigned the post to become state insurance commissioner in Texas.
The future of the five-member budget board, which controls much of the state’s bureaucracy, is unclear.
New Gov. Nikki Haley, who heads the board, wants to give many of the board’s duties to a new state Department of Administration that would report directly to her. That move requires the approval of the Legislature, which Haley again will seek when legislators return to Columbia in January.
