Government is mulling over the lifting of the State of Emergency. Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne said that the related Resolution will be presented in Parliament soon. The Prime Minister was speaking while moving the Resolution to extend the Emergency in Parliament today. The Prime Minister said that even after the end of the war the Government had to continue with the Emergency as more LTTE weapons were being recovered and seized and searches were continuing for LTTE cadres who were hiding among civilians. The Prime Minister said that proposals to remove the emergency regulations have been handed over to the Security Council. The premier said that once the Security Council approves the removal of the regulations those laws will cease to exist.
