President Rajapaksa begins his official tour of China. He was accorded a very warm welcome on his arrival in China. The President who left the island on a four-day official tour of China arrived at Beijing International Airport early this morning. Executive Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Zhang Zhijun and Deputy Director General of the Asian Department of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Sung Wei warmly received the President and the Sri Lankan delegation at the Airport. President Rajapaksa is on a four-day official visit to China on an invitation extended by his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao during the bilateral meeting held in St. Petersburg, Russia this June. During his stay in Beijing and Shenzhen, President Rajapaksa will hold bilateral meetings with the Chinese President Hu Jintao and the Prime Minister Wen Jiabao. The President will be an honoured guest at the opening ceremony of the World University Games, known as XXVI Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, Guangdong.
Meanwhile, the President, before embarking on his visit to China from the Katunayake International Airport last night, unveiled the new Buddhist Shrine built at the migrant passenger terminal at the Airport. The declared open the Shrine Room by making the first offering of flowers, amidst the blessings of members of the Maha Sangha. Ministers Priyankara Jayaratne and Felix Perera, Deputy Minister Neomal Perera, President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunge and Presidential Staff Chief Gamini Senarath were present on the occasion
