Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne said today that the government was looking at the early abolition of the emergency regulations following consultations with the National Security Council.
Speaking during the debate to extend emergency regulations in parliament, Jayaratne has said the proposals have already been made to the National Security Council and that they would be presented to parliament shortly.
He has added that since the end of the war against the LTTE in 2009, most of the clauses in the Public Security Ordinance have been abolished.
However, he has said a few of the clauses under the ordinance that were placed since August 2005 remained since the LTTE continues to be active overseas.
