The pro-reforms group in the UNP has today moved a resolution in the parliamentary group meeting backing deputy leader Karu Jayasuriya to take over the party leadership.
The resolution was moved by co-deputy leader Sajith Premadasa and seconded by Ranjith Maddumabandara.
Premadasa has said that Jayasuriya should be appointed as the party leader.
Parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekera has proposed that UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe remain as the Opposition Leader while Jayasuriya be appointed as the party leader.
The UNP parliamentary group had not objected to the proposal and expressed their willingness to support Jayasuriya.
