A 64-year-old woman was hospitalized Saturday after a volunteer helper at a grocery store struck her in the head with a can of pineapples.
Whitney Deandra Wilson, 21, has been charged with strong arm robbery and first-degree assault in the attacks, said Maj. George Brothers of the Lexington County Sheriffs Department.
Linda Sarvis Canaday, 64, of Columbia was shopping at 3:30 p.m. at the Food Lion on St. Andrews Road when a woman offered to help her shop, bag and load her groceries. At the car, Canady got in the drivers seat to turn on the air conditioning.
The suspect grabbed the can from a bag and hit Canady in the forehead. She then stole Canadys wallet and ran toward a nearby apartment complex, the sheriffs department said. The wallet had $300 inside, Brothers said.
