Well known business tycoon H.K. Dharmadasa, founder of the Nawaloka Group has passed away. He was 92.
Mr. Dharmadasa was ailing for sometime. He commenced his business career on a small scale and thereafter climbed to the zenith. He became one of the most successful business tycoons in Sri Lanka and was much popular among the people as “Nawaloka Mudalali.” He was honoured with the title “Deshamanya” for his yeoman service to the nation. Another outstanding service rendered by him was the granting of thousands of jobs in institutions coming under the purview of his Group.
He was the father of Chairman of the Sri Lanka Cricket Interim Committee Upali Dharmadasa and former Chairman of the National Film Corporation Jayantha Dharmadasa. The funeral is scheduled to take place on Saturday the 13th.
In the meantime, President Rajapaksa joined in extending his greeting to H.K. Dharmadasa on his 90th birthday. A copy of “Son on Soil”, the English Translation of the Nawaloka Nawahiru – Biography of H.K. Dharmadasa was presented to the President.
