Another pledge enunciated in the Mahinda Chinthana becomes a reality. An Insurance Scheme is offered for journalists. Chairman of the National Insurance Trust Fund Senaka Abeygunasekara said it is akin to the “Agrahara” Insurance Scheme launched on behalf of the Public Sector.
Mr. Abeygunasekara said this is an insurance cover called Induravi for journalists and for those who possess Identity Cards issued by the Media Ministry. They can apply for this insurance through their institutions and also recommended by the head of organizations.
The premium will be about 100 rupees per month. This will give the journalists a total insurance cover. For accidental death they are covered up to one million rupees and for hospitalization it will be 150,000 rupees. For surgeries it will be up to 350,000 rupees. He revealed that this applies to their children below 21 years of age and also to their spouses.
