Minister Maithripala Sirisena has said that the Government will be providing unlimited grants to the health sector. Addressing a function at the Welisara Hospital, the Health Minister said that criticisms were made due to shortcomings in the administrative sphere. The Minister attributed criticisms on drug to shortcomings in the institutions coming under the purview of the Health Ministry particularly with regard to the distribution of drugs. The Government was granting unlimited funds to the Health Ministry. The Minister said that about 12 to 13 billion rupees was being given annually to the Ministry when he assumed office. However, he revealed that this year they were getting 16 billion rupees
The opening of the new Drugs Storage Complex and two wards at the Welisara Hospital took place under the patronage of the Minister. The expenditure incurred on this work was 35 million rupees.
