A Project is to be launched for the conservation of Ola Leaf Books at Vihares countrywide. This decision was reach at the Central Cultural Fund Board meeting. The meeting chaired by Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne was held at the Prime Minister’s Office this morning. Five million rupees will be spent on the Ola Leaf Book conservation project. A specially trained group will be deployed to handle this task. It is estimated that there are over one million Ola Leaf Books in Vihares throughout the country. The Prime Minister emphasized at this meeting the need to expedite the initiatives to conserve them. He pointed out the need to introduce Sri Lanka’s heritage to foreigners who are visiting Sri Lanka. Minister T.B. Ekanayake was present at this meeting.
