Miami Beach police have arrested a Columbia man who had been on the run since the October 2010 shooting death of Germaine Brown of Hopkins in Five Points.
Spencer Lewis McDaniel was arrested without incident, the U.S. Marshals Service said in a release. He has been charged by Columbia police with homicide and is being held in the Dade County Detention center pending extradition to South Carolina.
Brown was found with multiple gunshot wounds in his upper torso around 10 p.m. Oct. 8 on Walnut Street, which runs parallel to Harden Street. He later died at Palmetto Health Richland.
While police did not release a motive for the shooting at the time, Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott said it was not random.
Leads pointed investigators to the Miami Beach area where it was thought that McDaniel was living under the alias Michael Taylor, authorities said. His picture was posted throughout the area. He was spotted by police Friday and taken into custody.
