JVP parliamentarian Sunil Handunnetti has criticized a Rs. 9 million supplementary estimate for the Private Transport Ministry.
Handunnetti has charged that the Private Transport Ministry had sought a Rs. 9 million supplementary estimate after spending Rs 2.6 million on a state function to mark the swearing in of President Mahinda Rajapaksa last year.
Handunnetti has pointed out that the supplementary estimate had been sought to purchase equipment and administration expenses of the Ministry.
The JVP MP has made this statement during oral question time in the House.
Chief Government Whip Minister Dinesh Gunawardena in response has said the Ministry was established only in 2011 and it was essential to have its office in an appropriate manner.
Gunawardena has also said the Ministry had not spent funds on the state function referred to by the legislator, but had spent monies on the Deyata Kirula exhibition.
