The UNP’s national nominations board is to meet on Monday (15) to discuss the nominations for the forthcoming local government elections.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said the national nominations board would discuss the nominations for the local government bodies that would go for polls in October.
He said the party seniors have already met with the respective electoral organizers to brief them on the nominations.
The final decision on the nominations would be made around the 20th of this month, he said.
The Elections Department has announced that nominations for the local government polls would be accepted from the 18th till 25th.
The UNP’s national nominations board consists of the party leader, secretary, deputy leaders, national organizer and several members selected by the Working Committee.
When asked about statements made by the pro-reforms group in the party backing certain members for local government bodies, Attanayake said the national nominations board is the party’s official body that would make the final decisions.
