Ministers intervene to defuse Potuvil clashes

The clashes that occurred between the residents of Potuvil and the Police have been defused with the intervention of Ministers.

 A tense situation occurred in Potuvil yesterday when the Police chased away a group that came to attack two wildlife officers who were waiting in Urani area in Potuvil for the elephant census. The Police curfew was also imposed in the town due to this. A group of Ministers went to Potuvil town to look into the situation on the advice of the President. Senior Minister A.H.M. Fawzi, Ministers Rauf Hakeem, A.L.M. Athaulla and Deputy Minister M.L.A.M. Hisbulla were amongst them. A special discussion was held at the Jumma mosque in Potuvil in this connection. The issues between the Police and the people had been solved at the meeting. The Ministers stressed that such a situation should not be permitted to recur. The Police curfew has been lifted and life has been normalized in the area.
