After an extremely successful visit to China that strengthened friendship between the two countries, the President has returned to the island.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa arrived in China last Monday on an invitation extended by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao. The President held a special discussion with the Chinese Premier. They agreed on several matters including encouraging Chinese entrepreneurs to invest in the country, and aid on several projects launched in the country. A special achievement was the assurance given by the Chinese premier to extend support to maintain the territorial integrity of the country, whenever required. The President was also offered a doctorate by the Beijing University of International Studies. He was also offered life membership of the university. The President met with Chinese President Hu Jintao in Shen Zhen yesterday. The Chinese President held a lunch in honour of the visiting Sri Lankan President. President Rajapaksa participated in the grand opening of the Summer Universiade sports event that got underway yesterday. Following the most successful visit that strengthened the friendship between the two countries the President returned to the island last night.
