The President has been reported that the Esala Perahera was successfully concluded.

The final Randoli Perahera of the Esala Perahera festival that centres the Dalada Maligawa, paraded the streets last night. The Perahera returned to the Maligawa after proceeding on Dalada Veediya, D.S. Senanayake Veediya and Raja Veediya. A notable feature was the large number of foreigners who were present. The water cutting ceremony was held in the Mahaweli river at Getambe following the last Randoli Perahera. The water cutting ceremony of the Natha, Pattini, Vishnu and Kataragama Devales was held at the auspicious time of 6.08 am. A large number of people thronged the location to seek blessings. The Perahera of the four Devales was welcomed at the Heerassagala Bodhiya. First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa and Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa were also amongst the Ministers and Parliamentarians who were present. The people who participated in the procession were served with refreshments. Members of the Maha Sangha led by Maha Nayake of the Asgiriya Chapter Most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkhitha Thera and Anunayake of the Malwatta Chapter Most Ven. Niyangoda Wijithasiri Thera were also present. The afternoon procession was also held making the conclusion of the festival. The President was presented with the scroll this evening informing that the Perahera was successfully concluded. The scroll was presented after Diyawadana Nilame Nilanga Dela and Basnayake Nilames arrived in the President’s house in a procession. The President thereafter handed over the scroll to the secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga. The President and the Nilames entered the shrine room and made offerings to the Buddha. The President also posed for a group picture with them. The President thereafter gave food to the baby elephants Sindhu and Raju which he offered to the temple. The President also presented certificates to the artistes who performed in the Perahera. The once in a lifetime special Presidential award and cash prizes were presented to 5 artistes while 50 outstanding artistes and 20 dance troupes were also presented certificates and cash prizes. Merit certificates were presented to 50 artistes.
